Guru Poojas

In the renowned temple at Vada Iluppai, the acclaimed event of Guru Pooja is to be celebrated. Guru Pooja is an Indian festival dedicated to spiritual and academic teachers. The word Guru is derived from two words, Gu and ru. The Sanskrit root gu means darkness or ignorance, and ru denotes the remover of that darkness. Therefore a guru is one who removes the darkness of our ignorance. Guru Pooja was occurring on a simple scale for the past many years. It has been advised that , from this year onwards Guru Pooja is to be celebrated on a grand scale, like Kumbha Mela, once in 12 years. This years Guru Pooja is to be held , as an honorary event for late Spiritual Guru, Brahma Sri, E.J.Kumaraswamy Deekshidhar. Deekshidhar has been an ardent follower of Vedas and advocated the same throughout his life. He was distinguished as ”Authority of Vedas” by Kanchi Maha Periyava.

        Guru Pooja happens for 10 days. The first 5 days are denoted as” Vratha Pooja”, 6th day for “Aradhana of Guru”, 7th day for “Sankalpa Pooja”, 8th and 9th day for public to actively participate in Pooja activities. All devotees can take part in Guru Dattathreya Homam and provide the sacred offerings in the Homam. The 10th day is a grandeur occasion marking the closure of Homam with “Maha Poornahuthi”, as the offering of flowers, coins, fruits, prasadh in a silk cloth to appease the Deity. Devotees who participate in this occasion, are blessed with the benefit of having taken part, equivalent to 100 Chandi Homams, Sudarsana Homam, Mrutyunjaya Homam, Kubera Homam, Maha Rudra Homam, Dhanvanthiri Homam, Lakshmi Kubera Homam and Kumbabishekam of temples. People who recite mantras, slokams, ashtakam and prayers attain Mantra Siddhi and worship of Devathas. 21 Kala Poojas are performed and 1 lakh ahuthis(offerings) are given to God in total.

        Devotees are cleared of many turbulences in life in a short span, namely, Pithru Dosham(fault) in birth horoscope, Sarpa Dosham, Kalathra Dosham, endless miseries, health issues, financial crisis, obstacles in educational progress, unemployment hitches and family disputes.

       Mandala Pooja will take place after Guru Pooja for 108 days. Devotees can take part individually or with their family in this Pooja and gain the eternal blessings of God.
